Registrant Email Verification

As part of enhanced cybersecurity and domain registration compliance requirements under the European Union's NIS2 Directive, Moniker requires verification of registrant email addresses associated with domain registrations.

Maintaining validated contact information helps ensure accurate ownership records and enables important operational and security communications to reach domain holders.

Effective Date

This requirement became effective on 25 November 2025.

Domains registered prior to this date are not subject to retrospective verification requirements unless registrant information is updated.

Transactions Requiring Verification

Verification is required for:

  • New domain registrations
  • Incoming domain transfers
  • Registrant changes
  • Updates to registrant email addresses

The policy applies to all supported domain extensions unless a registry operates under alternative fulfilment procedures.

Verification Workflow

Following registration or a registrant contact update:

  1. A verification request is sent to the registrant email address.
  2. The registrant must confirm ownership of the email address by clicking the verification link.
  3. Verification status is recorded automatically upon successful confirmation.

Verification Window

Registrant email addresses must be verified within 15 calendar days of the verification request being issued.

Impact of Non-Compliance

Failure to complete verification within the required timeframe may result in suspension of the associated domain name.

Suspension may result in:

  • Website unavailability
  • Interruption of email services
  • DNS resolution disruption
  • Display of a registry or registrar informational notice

Domain ownership remains intact and the domain will not be deleted solely due to lack of verification.

Restoring a Suspended Domain

Verification may still be completed after suspension using the original verification email.

Upon successful verification, domain services will be restored in accordance with standard processing timelines.

If assistance is required, Moniker Support can facilitate issuance of a new verification request.

Troubleshooting Verification Emails

If the verification message cannot be located:

  • Review spam, junk, and quarantine folders.
  • Search for recent messages relating to domain verification.
  • Confirm that email filtering systems are not blocking registrar communications.
  • Contact Moniker Support to request a replacement verification email.

Frequently Asked Questions
