Transfer Status Checks And Follow-Ups

Overview

If your domain transfer is held up, there are a few quick checks and actions you can take to move it forward. Most transfers complete 5 days after they have been correctly initiated and approved by both registrars. If you can not approve the transfer yourself (for example, because device-based 2FA is required and not enabled), contact us and we can approve the transfer from our side after verifying your account.

Check the current status

- Check your email (the domains admin/registrant contact) for approval messages from both the gaining and losing registrars.
- Confirm the domain is unlocked at the losing registrar and that you used the correct EPP/auth code.
- Make sure there is no 60-day transfer lock (often triggered by a recent registrant/contact change or a new registration/transfer).
- Look in your registrar accounts to see if the transfer shows as Pending, Awaiting Approval, or Requires Action.

Typical timeline

- Once the transfer is correctly initiated and approved, most domains complete after 5 days.
- If you have seen no progress after 5 days, reach out so we can investigate and help move it along.

Approve a pending transfer

Some registrars allow you to explicitly approve an outgoing transfer from your account. This can speed things up.
- If your losing registrar requires phone-based 2FA to approve and you do not have it enabled, you can message us and request that we approve the transfer on our side. We will verify ownership and, once confirmed, complete the approval for you.

Request manual approval from us

If you can not approve the transfer yourself, send us a message from your account email with:
- The domain name
- Confirmation that you initiated the transfer and the gaining registrar
- A note that you consent to the transfer and want us to approve it on our side
- Any relevant screenshots (e.g., the transfer pending screen)

We may ask for additional verification to protect your account. Once verified, we will approve the transfer from our side and confirm by email.

When to contact us

- You can not approve the transfer due to phone 2FA not being enabled
- You have not received approval emails within 24-48 hours of starting the transfer
- The transfer is still pending after more than 5 days
- You suspect an incorrect auth code, domain lock, or a 60-day restriction

Common reasons for delays (and quick fixes)

- Domain is locked: Unlock it at the losing registrar, then reattempt/refresh the transfer.
- Incorrect EPP/auth code: Retrieve a fresh code from the losing registrar and update the transfer request.
- Approval email not received: Check spam/junk; ensure the admin/registrant email is current, then resend approval.
- 60-day ICANN lock: You may need to wait until the restriction ends if recently registered/transferred or if contact info was recently changed without opting out (where applicable).
- Outstanding account/registry holds: Clear any billing issues or compliance holds, then retry.

After approval

- Once approved, the transfer will complete automatically and you will receive confirmation emails.
- DNS/name servers generally remain as configured, but allow up to 24-48 hours for global DNS propagation after any changes.
